Oil Creation As an Incentive to Clean the Seas

The RT700, a machine manufactured by the UK company Recycling Technologies can take mixed plastics, and make oil products. Because of the plastic mixture, the machine produces 3 types of oils; a yellow oil, like that produced by a petrochemical plant, a thick brown wax more like shoes wax, and a dense heavy oil like candle wax.

It is not the first machine that is trying to take plastic waste and make something useful out of it. Other organizations have come up with ways to create diesel from plastics. As a solution it has it’s flaws, the most obvious to me being that, by creating oil, we are exacerbating the greenhouse gas crisis, but it has a potential to create revenue, and substantial revenue at that, and the economic incentive to clean up trash from our oceans and lands has thus far been low.
