On April 16th, I wrote about the potential plastic bag ban in Coral Gables, FL, focusing on the Florida State legislation that prohibits local municipalities to pass such bans.
On Tuesday, Coral Gables commissioners unanimously voted to ban the bag. Violators could be fined $50-$500, starting next year.
So what about the legality? And will the state get involved?
Precedent set after the court upheld the local styrofoam ban seem to suggest not. Though the styrofoam ruling is currently being appealed, the future for the bag ban seems hopeful.
