Sea salt is often promoted as being healthier than table salt. According to the Mayo Clinic, this is not true, but the marketing team has done its job well. So it is disturbing to learn that 17/17 sea salt brands, when tested, were found to contain petrochemicals. This could equate to more than 250 plastic particles per pound of salt.
Sea salt is made by evaporating sea water. This process leaves behind trace chemicals and colors that give the salt its flavor. But it also leaves behind pollutants. Think about that next time you reach for the shaker.
