I successfully held my own clean up this morning! It was kind of nerve racking at the beginning, waiting for people to show up, and getting equipment and stuff set up, but at the end of the day, it was a blast.
7 volunteers picked up 1420 pieces of trash from the 1/2 mile of shoreline.
The most common pieces were bottle caps (264), food wrappers (152), cups (90), bottles (70) and straws (57). Of local/personal interest we picked dup 13 cortadito cups, 3 toothbrushes, 6 cigarette tips, and 5 vinagre/cloro bottles.
A representative from Project Seahorse joined us this morning too, taking the “pretty” pieces of trash for a large art project they are working on to promote conservation in Biscayne Bay National Park.
