The other morning Colmbia sponsored a beach cleanup at Crandon Park, and because I am me, I headed out to try and quantify what we collected. We hauled in 15 bags of garbage. I only sorted and counted about 1/3 of what we collected, still over 300 pieces. It was simply not practical to try and sort and count it all.
The litter in Crandon Park is about what you’d expect. Lots of water bottles, beer cans, utensils and plastic cups. We did find a surprising amount of clothing and shoes, and more than a dozen plastic shopping bags.
Thanks Columbia and Florida Sea Grant for organizing!
